Application for an FM Radio license was submitted to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) on the 16th June, 2006 and whilst the application was being processed, in September 2006, the company chairman and two broadcast experts attended the exhibition in Germany to evaluate the world’s latest and available range of Radio transmitters. Unknown to the accompanying experts at the time, there and then the chairman pretty much settled for the Eddystone brand of transmitters, perhaps the oldest and most efficient brand in the world. Upon returning, the chairman immediately entered into discussions with the manufacturers but they did not take him seriously until the Managing Director, who is a Telecoms Engineer, joined the discussions.
In December 2006, CCN acquired by private treaty, a parcel of land measuring about 2475 square meters situated at No. 35 Mount Patti Road, GRA Lokoja, where the company’s corporate and commercial offices and production studio would be constructed. The building would be named Rakiya Ogbeha Place .
Also in December, 2006, it pleased President Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, to grant CCN’s application and on the 8th February 2007 , NBC formally conveyed the grant along with a gift of the industry’s Bible, the Broadcasting Code. The assigned frequency is FM95.5 within the coverage area of the Abuja Broadcast Zone comprising Kwara, Kogi, Nassarawa and Niger States and Abuja FCT but the radio is to be sited in Lokoja. CCN fully paid the licensing fee a month later, well ahead of the 60-day deadline set for it NBC.
Before the formal presentation of the license, the company had assembled experts to midwife the setting of the Radio Station and operations of the company. |
